The aim of the game is to gather as much information as possible about work in 2050. Talk to as many citizens, workers and employers as possible and find out about how they got to where they are. The more information you have, the better equipped you will be to shape a positive Dreamwork Future. The game is played like a choose-your-own-adventure novel, on each page simply read the text and/or watch the video, fill in the forms, and choose what your next action will be by clicking the links. You will notice an insight score at the bottom of each page, the level of which will change depending on the places you visit and the choices you make. “Greetings humans of 2020. Please do not ignore this interruption to your daily newsfeed. This is an important message from the future prepared for you by Dreamwork: The Department of Sustainable Work and Play. If you are receiving this then our theory that we can broadcast across time has been proven correct and, together, we have the chance to ensure a brighter future for you and humanity. As you will have already noticed there are going to be a lot of changes over the next 30 years that will effect the way you work and even what you consider work to be. Some of these changes you may have anticipated, others you can not or it would be dangerous to explain to you at this stage. A few things that you need to know are certain: - Technology is developing at an exponential rate. Robots replacing human labour is occurring not just in autonomous vehicles and food preparation but with Artificial Intelligence will spread to many other professions previously thought of as the domain of humans. - Climate Change is forcing an immediate switch to a low-carbon economy, and a drive toward sustainable and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Your daily and working lives will be impacted by this in what you do for work, but also how you do it, where you do it, and how you get there. - Demographics are changing. The turn of the century saw the birth of the first digital natives who have grown up in a truly connected and global society where a ‘job for life’ is a thing of the past. As people live longer you will also see working age increase and more generations working alongside one another. Work for these generations needs to provide more than just a wage and provide personal and spiritual fulfilment. Luckily for you we now have an opportunity to help ensure you are better able to navigate this ever shifting landscape. ----- Pendle has always been a key site for changes in work - from the shift from agriculture to industrial production, to advanced manufacturing, tourism, entertainment and the creative industries. But Pendle will play an even greater role in the Future of Work in the coming years than anyone could have imagined. Today in 2050, researchers at Nelson and Colne College have made a discovery that will allow us to have greater control over the future of work. By harnessing the supernatural signals emitted from Pendle Hill we are able to open up a communication channel from our time to yours, as you would by Skype or telephone. Of course the Future is still unknowable and many different potential futures exist before you. We have calculated however that the odds for a brighter future for humanity and us can be greatly increased by giving you the opportunity to explore and gather information from our time.
