Tank was formed for a one-off performance by James Islip and myself (Andy Abbott) whilst our other band Kill Yourself was winding down on the gig-playing front due to Giles the singer moving to Glasgow. I bought a baritone guitar hoping to play both guitar and bass lines simultaneously by way of bi-amplification and special tuning and knocking out some Ruins, Lightning Bolt, Flying Luttenbachers style complicated noise rock. As it turned out what we played was much more primitive and funk-based but our danceable rhythms, no doubt helped by the then current fad for noisier instrumental mathy music and duos, drew enough interest and praise for us to continue doing the band after an aborted debut gig.
Tank still plays and we have released three albums, an EP and a handful of singles. Their Obscene Baby Auction appearances include a contribution to the compilation 'Old Baby Sex Scene', a split with Grabba Grabba Tape, the album Day Of Death by Bono Adrenalin Shock and third album TFT.
